Throat and Neck Bleeds
A bleed in the throat or neck can block the airway as the blood collects. It can be the result of trauma, forceful coughing, or swollen tonsils. The hematologist or treatment center should be called to determine management of the bleed.
Signs and Symptoms
- Neck is swollen
- Difficulty swallowing or choking
- Speech sounds different
- Area around neck or throat is bruised or discolored
- Coughing up or vomiting blood (where there is no evidence of mouth or nose bleed)
