We are a privately owned, specialty pharmacy. This means we are not owned by a pharmacy benefit manager, managed care organization or chain pharmacy.

As an industry leading pharmacy, we have been in business for over 35 years and have grown to be the nation’s largest independent pharmacy in terms of sales, staffing, and services offered. Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy of Flint, Michigan was founded by Dale Hagerman in 1973 on the tenet of, “Take good care of the patients and the rest will fall into place.” 

Dale’s son Phil soon joined the family business and in 1991 he became president of the pharmacy. In 2004, Jeff Rowe and Steve Chaffee partnered with Phil to expand the business and today Diplomat is a tightly formed company run by a veteran executive team. Diplomat is recognized by the MPA, and others as a national innovator.

Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy’s future lies in continuing to develop and offer unique services to our patients on both local and national levels.

With over 300 employees drawing from a diverse background of experience and education, Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy has the largest and most experienced staff of any independent specialty pharmacy in the nation. Additional certifications of our staff include: Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, clinical nutritionists, a certified asthma educator, a diabetic educator and a nurse wellness coordinator. As we continue to expand our services we have people ready to join our team to remain in the forefront of the biotech revolution.

We have all departments in place to continue to grow and meet the needs of our patients and clients. Our dedicated billing department has the knowledge and ability to handle all insurance related issues including 3rd party, Medicare, and alternative insurances. Our shipping and prescription delivery department offers same day and next day delivery for our specialty patients at no additional charge.

We are currently stocking and filling prescriptions for all requested biotech and specialty pharmaceuticals. Our staff has extensive experience in working with medications and disease states that most pharmacies have little knowledge of. Diplomat has programs available that can be fine tuned and adjusted to the needs of our clients and patients to manage each disease.

We are one of the leading compounding pharmacies in the nation with over 25 years experience in customized medication. With the dramatic increase in physicians turning to specialty formulations, we can help manage and control what can be a very effective and cost saving option to high cost alternatives. Issues of providers not participating, patients paying out of pocket, and the inability to manage formulary and pricing are difficult and time-consuming issues for managed care organizations. As an expert in this field, Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy can design, manage, and service this growing need.

Diplomat remains on the forefront of our industry by embracing and using the changes in technology to improve our processes and better serve our patients. We were the first independent pharmacy in Michigan to install the new generation of prescription robotics for improved patient safety and efficiency. We have worked closely with our software supplier to design reports and compliance tools to better manage our patient population. We are responsive and ready to move into e-prescribing. Plus, with the help from expert opinion, several leading software development companies, and internal clinical support, we are plotting a new course in modern healthcare technology using our electronic patient care system (eNAV). Within this state-of-the-art software are housed the core pieces of our pre-existing high-touch patient care models, now trancended into the digital world.

While we understand the importance of hi-tech, we build our business around high-touch.
